About the Talk
Prof. Tsukasa Takamine will talk about the long-running issues about the controversial relocation of US military bases within Okinawa, the public opposition to the Japanese central government and the logic of compensation politics.
About the Speaker
Dr Tsukasa Takamine is Professor in the Department of International Cultural Studies at Meio University, Japan. His areas of research interest include Japanese foreign and security policy, international relations of the Asia Pacific, Sino-Japanese relations and the base politics of Okinawa. After completing his PhD at Murdoch University, Australia he became Research Fellow in the School of Asian Studies at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Tsukasa has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in Pacific Review, Pacific Affairs, Japanese Studies, International Studies Review and also in Japanese academic journals. He is the author of Japan’s Development Aid to China: The Long-running Foreign Policy of Engagement (Routledge 2006).
